Wheels To Work - West Midlands

W2W provides transport advice and planning to individuals raising their awareness of the range of possibilities available to them. For instance, after an interview and selection process, applicants may be offered the loan of a moped for 6 months along with Compulsory Basic Training (CBT), safety equipment, insurance, tax, breakdown cover, servicing and maintenance. Alternatively, other forms of support, ranging from Driving Lessons to simple Travel Plans may be appropriate. Regional Schemes vary in the type of support offered.

There are many obvious beneficiaries to the schemes, the main one being that individuals are able to secure and retain their employment / training places, but there are many more benefits besides this.

W2W helps:

  • Connexions: Meet the 'Not in Employment, Education or Training' (NEET) targets.
  • Jobcentre Plus: Provide a wider package of initiatives to assist people accessing employment opportunities.
  • Training providers: By assisting people to attend their place of training. Helping them to work towards their career aspirations and fill the gaps across a range of skill sectors in the region.
  • Learning and Skills Council: Increase numbers attending training courses by removing barriers to learning.
  • Employers: Increase the labour pool.
  • Generally: By assisting to reduce the number of people who need to claim a variety of state benefits - with consequent benefit to the economy.

The scheme helps individuals become more active in their local community and reduces the need for migration to areas that have better transport networks. It also enables them to access leisure and health services and maintain their social life. W2W also helps to improve opportunities and to enhance life chances.

Note - Not all of the areas offer the same transport solutions and have differing entry criteria. Please go to the detail for your areas to see what is available for you.
